Sword fighters discuss fantasy warfare
Come and join us as real life sword fighters discuss what combat in fantasy worlds would be like. This talk will explore scenarios inspired by Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones, Dungeons & Dragons, and other fantasy epics asking what insights real world martial arts experience can grant them.
The talk will be presented by Mosh Hewson and Tim Green.
Mosh has trained 11 years of full contact martial arts, and 4 years of HEMA, predominantly backsword and Broadsword texts from 1599-1902 and teaching such at the Fitzroy college of arms in Melbourne. He has also studied smallsword, saber, sword and buckler, sidesword and buckler and spadroon. Mosh has also been active in the LARP scene for 6 years now and has helped run small parlour LARPS to being in the team for week long festival LARPS and all kinds in between for whole weekends to single night one shots as a player and as minor to major NPC roles for events. He has lead small groups of 2-3 to entire sides of up to 300 many occasions and once had to do a 1v120 fight on a Sunday morning.
Tim has trained in HEMA for close to 15 years, focussing primarily on Victorian Era sabre, cultass, knife and duelling swords. He has also practised broadsword, sword & buckler, bayonet, cane fighting, and Viking Age weapons. Tim also has experience in unarmed martial arts having practised boxing, submission wrestling and tae kwon do. In addition Tim is a historian with a particular focus on the Viking Age and the 19th century, also with having done Viking Age and Medieval re-enactment.
