Regular fencing lessons

We run in-person lessons Tuesday and Wednesday nights from 7.00pm in the Glebe Town Hall in Glebe.

We also run a special swordplay in the park lesson and sparring day on the third Saturday from 2.00pm of every month at the Haberfield Netball Courts. There is still plenty of space at these sessions if you're interested in coming along.

Check the classes page to see what's on and to buy lessons.

Online Fencing Courses

We have on-line fencing courses in late 19th century British sabre that are great for learning from home or running group lessons with your friends.

Each lesson has a breakdown of technique and drills to help you go from statically practising to sparring with enthusiastic opponents. They are great for solo learning or as lesson plan for small to medium groups.

In-Person Fencing Lesson Fees

Single Lesson $25 or $15 for students, unemployed and low income

A month of lessons $80 or $50 for students, unemployed and low income

A three month term of lessons $200 or $150 for students, unemployed and low income

Weapons Taught

Cutlass and Sabre - Use of cut and thrust sword stretches back through British history, the same fencing style being used for each. While the shorter cutlass was used by sailors and even the police the sabre was the preferred weapon of army officers and cavalry.

Duelling sword - A light thrusting sword descended from the small sword and rapier. We practice a style from when modern Olympic epee was being developed from contemporary foil play.

Dagger and bowie knife - In the late 19th century large knives became more common as weapons. Discreetly carried under a coat or skirt they could quickly used should one encounter any unpleasantness.

Longsword - The classic medieval two handed sword. We base our curriculum on longsword systems developed in the Victorian period though.
